Making central site applications accessible to heterogeneous users Companies are constantly changing: they develop, evolve, merge and expand internationally. Working methods and tools are constantly modernised and habits change. IT departments must develop their information systems to adapt to these factors and in particular make their mainframe applications accessible to a larger number of users. These users may be very different from each other (in terms of language, training, culture etc.), they may or may not belong to the company and can have highly heterogeneous levels of IT equipment. It is therefore important to find a solution that is secure, simple to deploy and usable by everyone regardless of the context they are accessing it in. |

The VIRTEL WEB Access module makes it possible to securely expand 3270 applications to include larger user populations (employees, customers, partners, distribution networks, suppliers etc.), regardless of the workstation they are using. Whether the terminal used is fixed or mobile, all it needs is an Internet browser. This is an ideal solution for facilitating management of mobility issues. VIRTEL WEB Access establishes dialogue between applications and users through a secure connection via a standard Internet browser. It is a simple and non-intrusive solution that displays the 3270 screen in a Web page. It also makes it possible to introduce enhancements that facilitate navigation and improve the display of the user interface.
Security
Everything has been provided for in terms of security. Access to the URL is secure through use of control and identification parameters (user name, password, rights etc.). These authorise or prohibit access to the secure environment of the central site and its applications in accordance with the rights granted to users. The screens displayed can also be customised in terms of ergonomics and the information accessible, depending on the type of user and his/her rights.
Simplicity
|
| | | Extremely secure access Uses RACF, TSS, ACF2 environments. Integrates the HTTP/S functions available on the z/OS version 1.7 platform via AT-TLS. Benefits from the security of asynchronous mode. Incorporates control and filtering rules (calling IP address, network mask, date & time etc.; access limited to authorised users and transactions etc.). Compatible with the security components of IP environments: Proxy, Firewall, DMZ, VPN, Single Sign On gateway, SSL, user/password, Bastion etc. | | | Technical requirements
Platform:
z/Series, z/OS or OS/390,
MVS or VSE.
3270 applications: Cobol, CICS or IMS, TSO etc. TCP/IP User station: Light client fitted with a browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc.).

For users, nothing could be easier: they connect from their usual Internet browser via a simple URL. Through this they have access to 3270 applications and immediately benefit from the ergonomics and navigation features of the Web. VIRTEL WEB Access, thanks to simple and fast parameter setting features, also provides additional functions to improve navigation and the appearance of applications. |

The problem of international
access from countries using special characters
is also facilitated.
VIRTEL WEB Access includes multilingual access to 3270 applications through automatic and transparent management of DBCS character sets (Chinese, Japanese alphabets etc.).

In terms of installing and operating the solution, the technical architecture provided is of optimum quality: |
|
- An ultra light client station: nothing to install on workstations, no Java applets or plug-ins.
- Simple and fast installation of VIRTEL WEB Access on the host: only a few hours are required.
- Centralised administration:
- no deployment is necessary, - a single maintenance and operation point for thousands of potential users.
- Performance is unaffected thanks to 2-tier architecture which limits the phenomenon of bottlenecks when ramping up (no TN-3270 message contention).

|
Reduced costs
Thanks to the simplicity of its architecture, VIRTEL WEB Access makes it possible to significantly reduce installation and running costs. This solution has many advantages over conventional 3270 emulations.
|
|

Outstanding technical architecture differentiating it from the competition
- No degradation of performance.
- No intermediate platform.
- Easy to install, run and maintain.
- Costs are inevitably reduced.
Mainframe applications can be immediately put on the Web
- No modification of applications.
- Nothing to install on client stations.
Allows standardisation of the workstation
- Accessibility from any Internet browser , regardless of the client station (PC, GSM, Palm etc.).
- Management of international access issues.
